Superheroes seem harder to find than when I was young. As a young man, many of my motivators were fictional. Sometimes as children, making the distinction from mortal to superhero can be tricky. Real heroes walk amongst us, some recognized and others under the radar. Reeve played a superhero but was a true real flesh and blood person on this planet that quietly had a drive and purpose to make the world a better and kinder place.

Christopher Reeve was a gifted actor that is best known and loved for playing Superman inWashington DC Capitol Building Karl Robb 2024 many sequels. As an admirer and long-time fan of Reeve, the moving new documentary of his strength and courage, renewed my passion for advocacy. The show reminded me of the amount of dedication, passion, and tenacity it takes to make change!

His riding accident changed his life and began a whole different trajectory. If you have HBO, I urge you to take the near 2-hour trip. The film documents Reeve’s Capitol Hill visits as well as his advocacy efforts and drive for research and government funding. Reeve reveals his vulnerability to be a star that is now publicly seen in a wheelchair.  Christopher Reeve was a force of awareness for improved patient care. He devoted his final days to helping patients with his wife, Dana, to creating the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation dedicated to spinal cord injury. This documentary proves that Reeve left an example of what a true hero is all about!
