As the month of April melds away and Parkinson’s Awareness month is shelved until next year, for those of us living with Parkinson’s disease 24-7, our awareness needs no added reminder. Like breathing, or any other part of us, our illness is always there!
Awareness must come from those who are willing to listen. What we could use is better understanding from hotels, restaurants, onlookers, children, first responders, and even some family members. Maybe it is awareness that we need to begin with, but for most of us, who are dealing with a moving target, it is hard to verbalize or predict. Our own awareness is just as important as the public’s awareness.
Awareness is in every activity and endeavor that we choose to pursue. Awareness can lead to change mostly through a loud clear and unified message to those who are willing to listen! It’s about time.
